Southwest Airlines is the new title sponsor of a two-tournament men’s and women’s college golf swing in Hawaii, which will feature many of America’s best Division II players.

This is the first time in program history that Hawai‘i Pacific will host a full-field tournament. A short drive from downtown Honolulu, The Southwest Airlines HPU Shark Shootout will be played on Oct. 25 – 26 at Leilehua Golf Club and Pearl Country Club, respectively.

11 of the 16 men’s teams competing at Leilehua are ranked in Golfstat’s Top-50 NCAA Division II National Rankings. 8 of the 16 women’s teams teeing it up at Pearl are listed in the Top-50.

Building upon a tradition that began in 2005, Hawai‘i – Hilo will host The Southwest Airlines Dennis Rose Invitational on Oct. 28 – 29. Named after the late Dennis Rose, a former director of golf and president at Waikoloa, the men will play at Waikoloa Beach Resort and the women at Hapuna Golf Course.

“Highlighted by a first-time full tournament field, The Southwest Airlines HPU Shark Shootout is a notable step forward for the HPU Golf Program,” said general manager of Pearl Country Club and head coach of the Hawai‘i Pacific Men’s and Women’s Golf Teams, Ed Kageyama. “Building upon Pearl’s storied history of high-profile amateur and professional events, we hope that all players and teams competing this week will enjoy our exciting golf course layout.”
